Well, i usually don't let things get to me.. Specially when it comes to my dreams of playin college Football.. But the past few weeks ive been thinking, will my size really effect what college wants me or not?
Im 16, 5'8 and thats prolly the tallest i'll get my dad says.. People tell me that unless i grow a couple more inches, my chances of playing for a good college football team is low compared to someone thats like 6'0 feet.. Im hoping my speed will get me somewhere, because at the moment im one of the fastest.. I use it as a motivationl kinda thing to prove people wrong, but at the same time, it can unmotivate me..
Anyways, just felt like gettin that off my chest really..

That all depends what position...if you're a lineman and you're that short you're not going to be playing college ball as a lineman...running backs, linebackers, safeties, corners, are all possibilties being that short..being a running back and being short is a good thing because of how low to the ground you constantly are...it's much harder for defenders to find you when you're short. A downfall to being short is that it's going to be harder to find shorter people with the same amount of weight as taller people...for example: A 6' person on average is going to have more weight on him then a 5'6'' person is.

I'm hoping to be 5'9" 5'10" around my senior year. My height will be the only thing that keeps me from going d-1. In my opinion. What is your 40 and what position do you play. You could play college ball at DB and RB. colleges like speedy RB's that are shorter.

Well.. going into Freshmen year i ran a 4.9 40.. (hand-timed)
Then going into Sophmore year, i ran a 4.68 40 (hand-timed).. Im told my strides are very short but quick, and if i improve my stride i'll get a faster 40 time.. But in my opinion, the shorter choppier steps for me help me cut, stop, and accelerate quicker..
There is a chance i COULD get 5'9 which would be amazing, but i'll never know till im like 18..

you all are lucky. I'm supposed to be like 6'2" and 6'3" and I don't want to be that tall.

You never know, man...you're only 16, you still have PLENTY of time left to grow.

As for Emotional, lol, in football its the best thing to be tall. Many WR came out of highschool and we're recruited as RB's and most likely, if all goes well and I do get recruited. I will probably at the least be tried at both positions. As I train during the year, I'm also during 7-7 football and other drills to help with my hands and my agility. The more versitle you are, the more coaches like you and even though I may be recruited as a RB, they may turn me into a WR (my doctor said I'll be 6'0''-6'1'', my growth plates are almost closed) or stay at RB or both. Truly I don't care where I go, I love to catch the ball and run it but yeah many H.S. recruits these days get recruited as QB's, RB's and even DB's and get turned into wideouts...

That's the problem I don't wanna be a wideout. I wanna be a DB. My grandpa said I might be 6'2 - 6'3.... he is also the one that said he was State Champion for wrestling his Jr. and Sr. year.... Well idk he isn't the type to lie so :(.

Like im workin on grip with holding 2 10 pound weights in each hand for a minute each, but is there something else i could do to get better at catching the ball?
Specially the ones when you gotta look over your shoulder.. :o

Emotional-Their are many DB in the league that are 6-0 or more.
Champ Bailey
Chris Gamble
Al Harris
Chris McAlister
Mike McKenzie
Antre Rolle
Samari Rolle
Deion Sanders
just to name a few
And thats what your grandpa says...next time your at the doctor, ask your doctor if your growth plates are closed up and how much taller they think you are going to grow. Mine are almost closed and I have very little to go but it won't be visable (like 1/4 of an inch). Even if you do grow to be 6'2'', look at Myron Rolle who is the top recruit in the country as a defensiveback...
MPM17AB-For practicing and getting your hands softer, there are many ways to help you
1. When its a bit warmer or if you have gym to go to, go with a friend or a quarterback and just play constructive catch. Just pass the ball to each other than you can take turns practicing passing plays you know or just running routes and him throwing you the ball. It might sound dumb, but these little things help
2. Join flag-football or a 7-7 tournament or indoor football league. These are great ways to practice receiving in a competitive way.
3. For people that have a personal trainer for speed, agility, and/or strength for football, ask your trainer if you can incorporate a football in your drills. In the spring I'm going to be going to a sports clinic with a trainer to help me get faster and stronger for next season. I'm going to ask the same question and you could use a football for instance when your doing warm-ups with you just holding the football properly, same when your doing agility ladders or drills. You have the trainer throw you the ball and you throw it back while doing something like shuttle runs, pro-agilities, 3-cone run ect.
Those little type of stuff, all together help you get better with your hands. Flag-football, personally is the easiest and best choice...

I love being tall, I would give anything to gain a couple more inches. But I tell you what, short guys are hard as hell to find.

You only named corners too. Almost all NFL safeties are 6+

That's why you see many CB's that are 6'2", 6'3" in college are discussed as safeties when talking NFL draft.

Oh well I was put at DE and LB on my JV team because I think my coach thought I was too tall to be a linebacker size and speed. Probally because I was lazy and tired at practice because I go to bed late. Then the last game I was at DE get block by 3 defenders the RB gets by me and I sprint down the feild and I was catching up to the runner. I did think I was going to catch him but I just sprinted 80 yards. I remember being by the linebacker we are both sprinting and run pass our linebacker well he is taller than me. Got in at Saftey at the end of the game and I feel like I completed my season playing saftey where I should of been at the first place.
