Is there any link to losing a super bowl then underperforming the next year?? Its happened every year since 2001, the losing team in the super bowl had a below .500 record the next season. It doesnt look like that trend will break this year with the Eagles in disarray...

What about the Buffalo Bills? They went to four Super Bowls (25,26,27,28) in a row and lost all four. But my point is that they didn't underperform after losing the Super Bowl. And the Denver Broncos lost two years in a row at the Super Bowl (21 and 22).

I know many teams have had great seasons following SB losses, Im talking about the recent years though.

With free agency, it's hard for any franchise to be consistently good from year to year.

Also keep in mind that NFL collective bargaining rules make it near impossible to sustain success over several seasons. The salary cap and the fact that the better you perform, the lower you draft makes keeping a good team together very difficult.

What happened with TO in Philly is a prime example. Philly couldn't get over the NFC Championship game hump, so they brought TO in to give them the boost they were missing and it darn near worked. They payed for it this year, but they did get to the big game.

That's why what the Patriots have done for the last few years is truly remarkable and most likely will be the rule and not the exception. At best, teams have a two-to-three year window to make a Super Bowl run. After that, the salary cap and low draft picks will probably render that team to the status of also-ran.

Look around the league. Pete Rozelle's dream of parity has finally been achieved. The days of the NFL dynasties (49ers, Cowboys, Steelers, Bills, etc, etc) are largely past. In this new era, literally ANY team has a chance!

The Bears are leading the NFC North, for Pete's sake!

The EAgles didn't ev4er have a chance this season with the madden curse and losing the superbowl going against them.
