How do braces like these ankle braces and knee braces help prevent injuires? Are they worth it? DO you think the'll actually make a diff?

I thought they were for when you got injured. I know some people that had Ankle Braces and Knee Braces after they got injured,

Most will have a rating listed somewhere in them which will tell you how much help the provide in preventing injuries. At KU we HAD to wear braces during practice and games, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Well I had terrible shin splints and tore a ligament in my left knee. I think im going to wear those shin sleeves on both legs, knee braces on both legs, and ankle braces to prevent injuries in practices and games.

good luck moving around in all of that. Make sure they fit perfectly or you'll regret it.

Why would I regret it? I'll probally just wear it for the knee's and shins then

can you elaborate?

What positions had to wear them, and where on the body?

I've only seen o-linemen wear those huge knee braces.

if you look at the lineman's knees in just about every proffesional or collegiate football game, you'l almost always see them wearing knee braces to prevent knee injuries, not just to heal injuries.

I know my coach told us not to wear braces unless neccesary. We learned in anatomy and physiology that wearing braces actually weakens the joint. Maybe that is just a myth though.

See thats what I Heard to. My plan was on my own to do quad/ham flex's to stregenth the knee and shin raises to stregenth the shins. But where the brace practices/and games

If you wore a truly supportive brace at all times then yes, you would weaken the muscles that support the joint. However, wearing a brace for 2 hours a day while you go out and practice/compete isn't enough time to lose any strength.

But eventually you would like to quit wearing them correct? I understand what you're saying, I'm just asking. Would you want an athlete to"nurse" himself off the brace as time went on.

Would you play football without shoulder pads or a helmet? The brace is acting as a protective device rather than support.
