Well, Dbish this might be a question that you can help me with the most. This year I have been working harder than ever before to try and increase my size, speed, and strength package. Hopefully, I can attend some combines and college camps to help get my name out there and try to impress some coaches. My question is, being a guy in my predicament, what all can I do? I've had people tell me, well your huge, your a big guy, your bigger than so and so and he's gotten some scholly's. Well.....ok. I just wanna know from ya'll that are in college, what did ya'll do, and what all can I do to get coaches interested in me.

My goal is to go D-1A. I know I'm pushing it but impossible IS nothing.
If I have no success in that catagory, I would like to go to Georgia Southern because I would like to be back in my hometown.

For those who do not know of my predicament: This will be my first year starting, and I will be a senior. Last year was the first year I've ever played.

Well I'm not in college but try this:http://interact.fansonly.com/prospects/
Ask your coach if he can get you invited to certain camps or something.

even if your name doesnt get out there, dont quite, never give up, like you said, impossible is nothing. there are and were many big time college players who werent looked at by single school, like Wr Mike haas, he is now an all american, one of the nations leading reciever and will be a first day pick next year, possible even 1st round.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given then to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."

Where to? 260-270? I don;t want to be fat.

PolPow53

i remember you looked pretty lean before. You could probably be 280 not fat, not lean, but not fat. I'm just saying for recruiting purposes you should stay on the line.

What do you mean recruiting purposes? I would like to get around 260 not 280, that's a load to carry. But if I could keep my bf % low at 280 then maybe.

by recruiting i mean trying to get your name out there, like you asked in the thread.

Could I not do it at any other position?

here's my opinion.

you could be ( as a lineman if you gained lots of good weight) a:

huge end

speedy d tackle

amazingly speedy guard or center

But if you were to move to lb/fb, all you could ever be is mediocre, if you know what i mean. I doubt you could get your speed good enough to hang with fb/lb prospects without loosing so much weight that you would actually be small for a fb/lb.

Also, it seems that fb/lb rely heavily on hs experience as they are more skill positions, while linemen you could get ahead more by stats.

Plus I honestly don't think that you could step in and be a good fb/lb (having never seen you play) since all the good fbs/lbs I know seem to have been playing those positions since peewee football, speaking from experience it's hard to make a move to play those positions, it's IMO harder to move there for your senior season than it is to move to QB.

if your 4'7 40 is electronicly timed you are fast enough to be a college lb/fb if it is hand timed you 40 could be just about anything so get you 40 electronicly timed at a combine or camp and if it is 4'8 or below you should be fine and even if its higher you may have a chance but dont forget you also have to performe on the feild

If you can go to some combines and do well, you will get noticed. College scouts are not necessarily after those with the best HS numbers, rathter those with the most potential to play college football.

I have worked with several that put up awesome numbers and did not get a lot of looks from colleges. I have also seen some that have less than impressive numbers but got offers because scouts and recruiters saw a lot of upside potential.

I would like to go to combines and camps offered by colleges. What combines are out there for me to go to?

Check scout.com and rivals.com for info. I think rivals is affiliated with Nike, and Scout is affiliated with another big sport manufacturer. They should have a list of upcoming combines.

Don't you have to be invited to attend those? If so, I will talk to my coach.

your coach has to recommend you, so i guess it can be done, he has to claim you are a "high level prospect"

All he's told me is that I'll be a big key to our team next year. I'll talk to him to see if we can get a group to go. We have a butt load of athletes here.

Yeah in the last few years on my high school team we've had good athletes that are new to football who really were built to be linebackers but played DE because linebacker takes so much football savy and intelligents.

That's probably what I'll do. So far I think I'm playing both ways...

Either:

OL/DL (more than likely)
OL/MLB (doubt it)
TE/DL (TE in double tight formation)

PolPow53

exactly

if you come in

height: your tall i think, right

280

4.8 40

mad strong

you can be:

perfect ot,g,c,

HUGE DE

Good size, speedy strong DT

Blocking TE

Much more options

I'm around 6'2-6'3. It'll take a miracle for me to get from 245-280. Dude I don't want my gut to get any bigger than it is.

That's why I'm drinking a lot of BOOST's to get those extra cal's and I'm takin whey after every workout.

Tomorrow we test on 40's so I'll get my time. I think we're running on a rubber track and it's handtimed. We're also testing vert, bench, and clean. We don't test squat until spring and summer.

frobro

My bench is 315 and I cleaned 240. If it gets any warmer we'll do our 40's. We might do vert's on Monday.

Well, to close this off I have remade my goals:

Goals by Spring Practice, May '06

Weight: 265-270
BF %: 10-13%
Bench: 350
Clean: 275
Squat: 405
40: 4.8 or lower
Vert: 30" or higher

Supps to be used: Creatine Ethyl Ester, Whey Protein, BOOST

Sound good?
