I'm a juinor.I am planning to send an introductory to 2 local schools and 2 in ontario along with sum tape. I'm wondering if i should do a "highlight tape" with only my best plays, or an entire game tape, or both? BTW I play OL

idk...shouldn't you wait till your a junior and after your junior season...it may be different for lineman because I know college send out stuff to offensive lineman on just physical stats, even before they look at their playing stats or see any video of them playing...

At least I know for skill positions, thats a bit early and unless your flat out amazing, once they find out your a sophmore, they won't give second look to you. There busy, specially now with the college football season winding up and start recruiting ect...If you are very good then, then most likely newspapers, high-school football prep articles, news follow-ups have put you out there enough (for a sophmore at least) and if your that good, the coaches will know about you (if its a college in the same state...) If its out-of-state, unless your just flat out amazing on that tape, i don't think they'll give a second look...

I would say wait...

if there is any objection, go on and post...I haven't been through this process yet and I would like to know what ppl think...

Ive heard from a lot of people that you should send what you think is your best game, all of it. Thats because anybody can look awesome on a highlight tape, they just edit out thier bad parts. So send in an entire game footage of your best game.

Colleges look at just stats sometimes? Well you need to get your squat stats up. I really need to get my bench stats up. But I have 2 years to do that.

Sorry bro but ur bench won't go from 100 to 300 in 2 years...unless u wanna take some stuff

actually, thats very do-able (not to 300 but to 250 at least) if he was very consistant and religoious of going to the weight room at least 3 times a week and having the correct diet...

At the end of my freshman season which is about a little over a year ago, I was able to bench 115 and squat 260, now I'm benching nearly 215 and was able to squat 385 before surgery. My goals in my sig. are VERY acheivable and probably my biggest and hardest goal (short term) out of all of them are to get a 4.5 or better 40 by next season, considering surgery on my knee...

Being religious in the weight room and having a strict diet is a BIG IF. Yea it's possible to get to 250 but 300 is a long way. We've had one guy in 9th bench like 65 and that was in 9th. And before his junior season he benched 90. And he lifted like he was supposed to...No I'm not trying to sound negative in any way, I give props to Emotional for being as dedicated as he is, but it's going to take a lot of EFFORT.

its do-able. I go to the weightroom 3 times a week. Mon., Wed., Fri. and I keep a good diet. I eat a chicken pattie sandwich after i lift and a protein shake when I get home. I spend about 2 hours in the weightroom everytime I go and I don't dick around like many ppl do who claim they go to the weightroom everytime its open but honestly don't do shit or get a good workout. That means not resting for 10 minutes between core lifts or taking breaks or talking ect. I do the lifts I'm planned to do that day for either the upperbody or lowerbody, but if I ever have extra time (it hasn't happened in a while) or I've done all I've planned, I still continue to work, doing different auxillary lifts. In those 2 hours, its 2 hours of hardwork I never let go to waste where I try to work, rigiorously, every part of the body. My ass and legs still hurt from my Wed. workout...

All I'm saying Emotional, your goals are very achievable, but like frobro said, they will NEVER come easy and they will require a lot of dedication, work, and effort. But if you go consistantly and work hard for at least between 60-90 minutes in the weightroom, and have the right diet, things will begin to happen...

Are you saying that sophmores don't get looked at by scouts? if you are you're crazy. Willie Korn from byrnes in SC. Then there is Jimmy Clausen the brother of former and current tennessee QBs Casey Clausen and Rick Clausen.
those are just two.

seriously man, wtf happened, how are you putting up so much all of the sudden?

i remember you were at like 280 or something before the season.

It just makes me even madder since now you can bench more than me with my shoudler.

frobro
12-11-2005, 07:30 PM
Hahaha, pretty soon I'm gonna put a video on here of me benching 315 or repping 225 so everyone knows I'm telling the truth.

I just worked my butt off. Hell I could care less about my bench, I'm more focused on my lower body.

You should be mad at that Tommy bonahan dude cause he's 2 years younger and putting up the same weight. ;)

unless your a very good then yes, you won't get really put into the fire of recruiting till next year, if you can produce the same type or even better stats. Where I play football, a lot of times, you hear about sophmore who do really well, like make all-confrence or honerable mention all-state, but then the next year, they're not shit and don't do anything as a junior. The only way your truly gonna get started looking at or at least have ppl put an eye on you is you make one of the all-state teams or possibly honerable mention but not even all-conference will put you in someone's watch list really...

hes right. his bench wont go from 100 to 300 in 2 years. benching 100 means u are a beginner. 300 is pretty much elite for a high schooler. once u get to around 250 its starts gettin hard to add those lbs. especially for a small person. there are exceptions though. personally it took me 3 years to go from 180 to 330.

Hahaha. This time last year I was getting 195 and now I'm at 315...

This is exactly why I think 100lbs to 300lbs in 2 years is possible.

Once the muscle starts going on, you start getting the newbie gains, and eventually are flung into full on puberty with the most testosterone in you rlife so you are pretty much on steroids, anything is possible.

But on the subject of what the author of this thread was talking about:
Did they ask you to send tape? If so, just send a highlight tape. This highlight tape should show as many different types of blocking as possible, just don't put anything in it that you really are not good at. Might be a good idea to mention that they are not. If they stay interested in you, they will ask for game tape if they want it.

Now, if they didn't ask for tape, DONT SEND IT! Contact them first via phone or e-mail. Just tell them your stats and that you are interested in their school. Just remember: Personality, Athleticism, and [An often hugely overlooked part] Academics are the most important things. Be sure not to only brag about your lifting stats and what not, but include any academic awards, GPA's, ACT/SAT scores, clubs, anything that shows good character traits, etc. Just try to make a good first impression.

If it is an NCAA school, MAKE SURE you get through the clearinghouse ASAP! Also, try to contact them during the dead period if possible. Well I see you are from Canada, so some of this may not be applicable, but most should be

Good luck!

Well I think we can all agree that based on what we know about Emotional, he will not bench 300 in two years. Maybe someone in a simialr situation with more drive and will. Go ahead and prove me wrong, but Emotional, I don't think you have it in you.

Are you talking about me?? Just wondering...I know I will get 300 eventually, I work my a@@ off in the gym. What I was saying is that I agree with the guy who said that Emotional doesnt have the drive to get 300. But hey, thats motivation for him to do it, so prove me wrong Emotional!!!

Good luck to him anyway.

Sometimes the shorter, stockier guys are most likely to get more weight because of their short arms and legs.
