I recently reinjured my shoulder in a wrestling match (I injured it twice during football season) and I got an mri on it and now I have to get surgery in the beginning of january. I will have to wear a cast for 6 weeks, then rehab it for 2 months. This really sucks because I'm a freshman who's gonna be in varsity offseason as soon as this christmas break is over, and I'm on the varsity wrestling team, and would have all my school's freshman powerlifting records with a bench of 250 for two reps and squat for around 385 for one rep. I can do lower body workouts like leg press, and running, and maybe dumbbell squats, but i'm not gonna be gaining any strength in my upper body at all. this is really messed up to me because I don't want to let my strength all go to waste and let other people catch up to me. So if i keep leg pressing and running, would I be able to keep my squatting strength and possibly gain more squatting strength, or just stay the same?
